Our skin is our largest organ. Did you know that? So why in the world do we think its ok to just put anything on our skin? For women this is huge! We have all been taught at a very very young age to “take care of our skin”.

What does that mean? How do we do that when the skincare industry is overloading all of its products with toxic ingredients.

The average woman absorbs 4lb 6oz of chemicals from toiletries and make-up every year, the industry itself reported ten years ago, in the trade magazine In-Cosmetics.

This to me is horrifying! Think about that, or just visualize 4 pounds of butter, that is GROSS! So, let’s try and break this down a bit. How are these items really effecting us? How do these chemicals enter the body and what happens when we do?

So, how in the world does this relate to the skincare, shampoo and other products I am putting on my skin? Well, back to your skin being an organ, it absorbs everything you apply, and the liver has to filter all of those items. The liver can get overly toxic, clogged, and sluggish which will lead to health conditions such as these:

  • anxiety

  • High cholesterol

  • skin irritation such as acne or eczema

  • depression

  • sleep issues

  • Indigestion or other digestive issues

  • kidney damage

  • heart damage

  • brain fog

  • exhausted

  • weight gain

  • PMS

  • blood sugar imbalances

  • Allergies-both seasonal and food

  • Obesity

So, does this all happen due to your products you are applying to your skin? No, there are other underlying factors like your overall health, your food intake, your sleep, and digestive health. But, these products do play a large role in the health of your liver. Providing clean products allows your liver to be able to focus on the 400 jobs that it has so your body can live optimally.

CHANGE THINGS UP!

1. Switch out your deodorant! Aluminum is in most deodorants, it's a toxic metal, and not necessary for you to apply to your skin. Did you know you have lymph in the underarm! So important to think about what you are putting on your skin! So, try this one by Primal PIt Paste or better yet you can make your own! It's so easy to do! My favorite recipe is from Mommypotamus.com! I am not one to get crafty and make my own product but this was a breeze!

2. Sunscreens! Such a huge debate! Really its nasty stuff! Removing items like Oxybenzone which is a sunscreen agent and ultraviolet light absorber linked to irritation, sensitization and allergies, and possible hormone disruption. So, give this a whirl! 3. Start with one part of your skincare, and make the change! So its not easy to transition over every single thing in your cabinet. So start with just your make up. Make up is loaded with synthetic flavor or fragrances.
